Go Wellington and Valley Flyer Buses bite back!

Recent media commentary of the public transport system creaking under the strain of increasing passenger numbers “couldn’t be further from the truth”, says Zane Fulljames, Southern Region General Manager for NZ Bus.

“In fact the opposite is true. We welcome new customers to our services. In recent months we’ve seen a substantial increase in Wellingtonians using their local bus services. This can be attributed to a range of factors from service enhancements through to the wider economic environment as people are choosing to make smart choices with their disposable income, “says Mr. Fulljames.

“Go Wellington and Valley Flyer are both well placed to be able to respond to the increase in customer demand, “says Fulljames. “We are continually reviewing capacity requirements to satisfy demand. A number of service enhancements have been put in place in recent months which will, over time, see more buses on the road providing increased frequency to deliver on the needs of local people from Upper Hutt, Lower Hutt, and Wellington.”

“Such an example of responding to increased customer demand is that of the Airport Flyer. From early July additional buses will be available to passengers and at increased frequency.    Wellingtonians and Hutt Valley residents alike will see more buses more often”, says Fulljames.

“Responding to increasing customer demand is a critical part of providing an effective public transport service.   We are continuing to invest in our Go Wellington and Valley Flyer fleet to ensure that we deliver the leading bus service in New Zealand.  New replacement buses have been ordered and these are being delivered to Wellington over the next 2-3 months.  A fleet of new generation larger trolley buses are also in the process of being built at Designline in Ashburton, with five delivered to date”.

“Each new vehicle lifts the bar for the   customer in terms of enhancing their travel experience with benefits such as CCTV, Wi-Fi etc. New and innovative buses combined with the service we provide will ensure that Go Wellington and Valley Flyer will be the way people in their local communities choose to travel in the future”, says Fulljames.
